It’s an interesting variety of perspectives and Sharp inhabits them well.Ī Taste of Life and Love in Australia is one of six volumes by self published Australian author Margaret Lynette Sharp. Sharp’s storytellers are a mix of ages and genders, told in first and third person. The writing is evocative, inspiring emotion with well-crafted prose and natural dialogue.

Thoughtful and charming, each story is a window into the nature of relationships, sometimes blissful, at Sharp writes of unrequited love, fateful meetings, romantic declarations and leaps of faith. Despite their brevity, Sharp neatly encapsulates each story, though there are some subtle links between scenes and characters. While I think most of the tales within this collection are perhaps more properly vignettes or scenes rather than short stories, it seems a negligible distinction. While grounded in an Australian setting with descriptions of familiar antipodean landscapes, A Taste of Life and Love explores the universal themes of love, desire and marriage. Other favourites include ‘A Song for Ellie’: a young man’s struggle to be noticed by a singer and ‘The Blossoming’: a young woman emerging into life and love. The book kicks off with ‘The Girl Next Door’, an engaging tale of a young man’s affection for his neighbour, which sadly goes amiss just as he summons the courage to ask her out. Synopsis: This is an easy to read volume of Short Stories, set in modern Australia. Title: A Taste of Life and Love in Australia
